Map the situations you need covered
Ask for separate answers for an accident, theft and a total loss. A car provided while your own vehicle is being repaired may solve only one of those problems. Write down whether replacement transport is part of the standard policy or a paid addition.
Check the practical limits
Ask what size of vehicle is supplied, how long you can keep it and whether availability is guaranteed. If you need an automatic or space for child seats, raise that before buying. Confirm whether using the insurer’s approved repairer is a condition.
Compare the complete cost
Put the add-on premium beside the cost of arranging your own transport for a disruption you could manage. Check existing breakdown benefits as well, but do not assume they provide the same help after an insured accident. Keep the relevant policy wording with your quote.
Take these questions to your provider
- What compulsory, voluntary and driver-specific amounts could apply together?
- Is a courtesy car available after theft or a write-off, or only during approved repairs?
- Which repairers can I use, and what changes if I choose another garage?
- Does the schedule record the real main driver, commuting, business use and modifications?
