Employers’ liability
Discuss all the people working in the business and their roles.
BUSINESS & PROFESSIONAL
Understand employee injury cover, the people who need to be considered and the records to keep.
Employers’ liability helps meet compensation claims for work-related injury or illness. Most employers in Great Britain need this cover; exemptions and the position in Northern Ireland need checking for the actual business. Do not infer someone’s insurance status solely from calling them a freelancer or contractor.
UNDERSTAND THE OPTIONS
Discuss all the people working in the business and their roles.
Public liability and employers’ liability may be packaged together but address different claims.
Ask about labour-only subcontractors, temporary staff, overseas work and unusual risks.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Who is included across employees, casual staff and subcontracting arrangements?
Which requirements and exemptions apply in the jurisdiction where people work?
Have manual work, site visits, machinery and higher-risk duties been disclosed?
Can employees access the certificate, and are historical records retained?
These are research prompts, not a quote or a recommendation. Ask an insurer or authorised broker to explain the accepted policy, its exclusions and your own circumstances. Product features vary.
