HOME & BELONGINGS

Pet insurance. Explained.

Understand treatment limits, renewal terms and what a change of insurer could mean for existing conditions.

Start with what you need covered.

Pet cover is best compared by the way veterinary-fee limits work. A similar annual premium can buy very different protection for a condition that needs repeated treatment. Look at the excess, any percentage contribution and the approach to medical history as well as the headline vet-fee allowance.

UNDERSTAND THE OPTIONS

Different arrangements. Different details.

01

Lifetime

A renewable annual allowance, subject to keeping the policy in force and its conditions.

02

Time-limited

Treatment support constrained by a specified period as well as financial limits.

03

Maximum benefit or accident-only

Check whether cover stops at a condition’s limit, or excludes illness altogether.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Four conversations worth having.

Vet-fee limits

Is the limit annual, per condition or subject to a time limit?

Your contribution

Is there both a fixed excess and a percentage share, particularly as the pet ages?

Medical history

How are previous symptoms, related conditions and waiting periods handled?

Renewal

What happens to ongoing treatment if I switch, cancel or allow cover to lapse?

Compare an actual offer

These are research prompts, not a quote or a recommendation. Ask an insurer or authorised broker to explain the accepted policy, its exclusions and your own circumstances. Product features vary.
