Income Protection Benefit and Low Start
OUR ASSESSMENT
Benefit duration and premium structure need separate comparisons. A low initial premium may describe a different contract from full-term cover.
Features to compare
- Deferred periods are 4, 8, 13, 26 or 52 weeks; payments are monthly in arrears after the period ends.
- Optional limited-benefit cover caps an individual claim at 12 or 24 months; stepped benefits are a separate option.
Limitations and checks
- Limited benefits cannot be combined with stepped benefits. Low Start does not include every standard Income Protection Benefit feature.
The question to ask
Is this a limited-benefit or full-term plan, and how does the premium change?
